ZEvRA 2nd International Conference

Circular Materials & Mobility Conference

24–25 November 2026 | Gläserne Manufaktur, Dresden

From 24-25 November 2026, CIRMA 2026 brings together leading researchers, automotive OEMs, suppliers, start-ups, and sustainability experts to accelerate the transition toward circular materials and mobility systems.

The conference bridges academic innovation with industrial implementation by fostering collaboration across the full automotive value chain.

About the conference

CIRMA 2026 is the second edition of the international conference series organised under the ZEvRA project (Horizon Europe, Grant Agreement No. 101138034). It takes place at the iconic Gläserne Manufaktur in Dresden, Volkswagen’s glass factory and a landmark of sustainable automotive manufacturing.

The event will feature technical paper presentations, industrial demonstrators, interactive workshops, innovation pitches, and networking sessions, providing a platform to discuss emerging technologies and circular design strategies in mobility systems.

Selected contributions will be published in peer-reviewed conference proceedings (Springer Nature), with opportunities for journal special issue publication after the conference.

Messages from the chairs

Co-General Chair

Prof. Ahmed Elmarakbi

Northumbria University

It is my great honour to welcome you to CIRMA 2026, the Second International Conference on Circular Materials and Mobility. This conference brings together leading researchers, engineers, and industry pioneers to address a defining challenge of our time: the circular design and end-of-life management of vehicles. As Co-General Chair, I am proud of the quality and breadth of contributions featured in this year's proceedings, reflecting the growing academic momentum in our field. I hope these published works serve as a lasting reference for our community, and I look forward to a stimulating and collaborative two days in Dresden.

Co-General Chair

Dr.-Ing. Thomas Hipke

Fraunhofer IWU

It is a privilege to welcome you to CIRMA 2026 as Co-General Chair. Fraunhofer IWU's commitment to lightweight design, resource-efficient manufacturing, and applied research makes this conference a natural home for the conversations we need to be having about the future of automotive materials and circular systems. I am delighted that Dresden, a city with such a rich industrial and technological heritage, provides the backdrop for this gathering. I look forward to the inspiring discussions, cross-sector collaborations, and innovative ideas that will emerge over the two days ahead.

Programme chair

Dr. Engy Ghoniem

Northumbria University

It is a pleasure to welcome you to CIRMA 2026 as Programme Chair. Curating this programme has been a privilege, bringing together cutting-edge research spanning eco-design, Life Cycle Assessment, sustainable manufacturing, and circular engineering strategies. The richness and diversity of contributions received reflect the urgency and momentum of our field. I hope the sessions inspire fruitful dialogue and forge new collaborations across academia, industry, and policy.

Organising Chair

Daniel Nebel

Fraunhofer IWU

On behalf of the organising team, I am looking forward to welcoming you to CIRMA 2026 at the Gläserne Manufaktur in Dresden. Having worked on sustainable lightweight applications as part of Fraunhofer IWU's team within the Open Hybrid LabFactory and actively contributed to its transformation toward circular economy in automotive, I am excited to bring the community together around this topic at CIRMA.
